A Clinical Observation of Tetanus Neonatorunt

Abstract
|
|
|
37 cases of neonatal tetanus, who are treated in Pediatric Dept. in Medical College, Chung-nam University during 4 years from Jan. 1971 to Dec. 1974 are analyzed with the following results.
1. The over-all mortality rate was 37.8%.
2. The sex ratio (male to female) was 4.3: 1
3. Most of patients were delivered at home with out of any medical prepara￢tion but supporting of professional midwife in only case.
4. The shorter the incubation period was, the worse the prognosis was.
5. The smaller the body weight of patient was, the worse the prognosis was 5 High mortality rate in the subnormal temperature and in higher body tem￢perature on admission of patients.
7. The mortality rate was high at night comparing with that of daytime and
it needs continuous vigilance of doctors and nurses.
8. The main causes of death were asphyxia from respiratory difficulty and
from secondary infectious "respiratory diseases.
